Mitchellson are proud to announce that they will be working alongside Kier to deliver the new build resettlement prison at Wellingborough.

The new prison is being built on the same site as the former HMP Wellingborough which closed in 2012 and will be a category C jail to house up to 1,680 prisoners.

The new prison is part of the governments Prison Estate Transformation Programme to reform and modernise the prison estate, create a better and safer environment to rehabilitate offenders and reduce crowding. The new prison at Wellingborough will create and support hundreds of jobs both during and after the construction phase and will boost the local economy

Mitchellson are carrying out the substructure works on the site which includes the groundbeams and pile caps, underslab drainage, external drainage, cross site services and hard landscaping.

Construction of the new £253million prison is well underway and the prison is expected to open in autumn 2021.
