Mitchellson are delighted to be working on another vibrant project at Kings Cross Central.

This project is Building P2 which consists of a 12 storey high quality mixed use development. The Building will include office space over 9 floors with a penthouse mezzanine, a 600 seat theatre with associated bar and front & back of house facilities and premium retail units at ground floor level.

The office space will be occupied by many world leading businesses including social media giant Facebook and the retail units will further develop the Coal Drops Yard complex. The impressive new theatre on Lewis Cubitt Square is an exciting addition to London’s theatre scene and a significant cultural attraction for Kings Cross Central.

Mitchellson are continuing to contribute towards the expansion of Kings Cross Central and this particular project includes substructure and superstructure works. The substructure works comprises, capping beam construction, temporary propping works, groundworks and waterproof substructure. The capping beam is formed on secant piles with a hydraulic propping system to allow bulk dig.  The excavation of 30000m2 of muck has been removed within the programmed period. The 2 Storey basement consisting of 1200mm raft slab containing drainage and 5 pump chambers. The basement liner wall was cast from B2 level to ground floor in 20 progressive pours.

The superstructure works comprises construction of a substantial Slipform Core, suspended Slab Construction, Feature Precast Stairs, Insitu stairs and Concrete Topping to PC Concrete planks on steelframe. The core was slip formed from the basement level to the roof covering 450m2 and 58m high. The concrete requirements for the core required 2 placing booms and pumps. The core was formed concurrently with construction of the insitu slabs. The construction of the ground floor facilitated the release of the steel frame installation and concrete planks/ concrete topping. The main stairs were precast acid etched concrete finish which formed a major feature of the project. This project was delivered with strict observance of the working hour restrictions.
