As Part of the Wider Crossrail Project the new Victoria Dock tunnel portal was constructed.

The project involved construction of a reinforced concrete portal structure for the Elizabeth line, along with the installation of an emergency Intervention & Escape structure and Head House building.

Milestones included:

  • Realignment of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) to provide space for the new portal.
  • Construction of the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) reception chamber to remove Crossrail’s TBMs, Jessica and Ellie, on completion of the adjoining tunnels.

Mitchellson were responsible for Constructing all the new Reinforced concrete works creating the New Portal Running Track, Portal and Retainaing Structures, the works also included the reception chambers for the TBM's as well as the New Tunnel Header Walls which completed the Cross Tunnel Structure.
